Description
An elegant dessert featuring rich vanilla custard topped with fresh strawberries in a buttery tart shell.
Ingredients
Scale
- 1 cup unsalted butter, softened
- ½ cup granulated sugar
- 2 cups all-purpose flour
- 3 large eggs
- 2 cups whole milk
- 1 tablespoon vanilla extract
- Fresh strawberries, for topping
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). In a bowl, beat the butter and sugar until light and fluffy. Gradually add the flour until a dough forms. Press into a tart pan and chill in the fridge for 15 minutes.
- Bake for 20 minutes until golden brown, then cool on a wire rack.
- In a saucepan, heat the milk and vanilla until just below boiling. In another bowl, whisk the egg yolks with sugar. Gradually add the hot milk, whisking continuously, and return to the saucepan.
- Cook over medium heat, stirring constantly until thickened (about 5-7 minutes). Strain into a bowl and let cool.
- Pour the custard into the baked tart shell and top with fresh strawberries. Refrigerate for at least 2 hours to set.
- Slice and serve chilled, garnished as desired.
Notes
Consider using coconut sugar or honey as healthier alternatives for sweetness.
