- 1 cup unsalted butter, softened
- ¾ cup granulated sugar
- ¼ cup powdered sugar
- ¼ teaspoon salt
- 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
- 2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 cup chopped dried sugar plums (or prunes/figs)
- Optional: Sparkling sugar or colored sprinkles for garnish
Instructions
- Cream the softened butter, granulated sugar, and powdered sugar together until light and fluffy (3-5 minutes).
- Add vanilla extract and salt; mix until just combined.
- Gradually add in the flour, mixing on low speed until just incorporated.
- Gently fold in the chopped dried sugar plums.
- Cover the dough with plastic wrap and refrigerate for at least 30 minutes.
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) during the last few minutes of chilling.
- On a floured surface, roll out the chilled dough to about ¼ inch thick and cut out shapes.
- Transfer cookies to a lined baking sheet and bake for 15-18 minutes until edges are lightly golden.
- Cool on the baking sheet for 5 minutes before transferring to a wire rack. Sprinkle with optional garnish while warm.
