Ingredients

  • ¾ cup granulated sugar
  • ¼ cup powdered sugar
  • ¼ teaspoon salt
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 cup chopped dried sugar plums (or prunes/figs)
  • Optional: Sparkling sugar or colored sprinkles for garnish

Instructions

  1. Cream the softened butter, granulated sugar, and powdered sugar together until light and fluffy (3-5 minutes).
  2. Add vanilla extract and salt; mix until just combined.
  3. Gradually add in the flour, mixing on low speed until just incorporated.
  4. Gently fold in the chopped dried sugar plums.
  5. Cover the dough with plastic wrap and refrigerate for at least 30 minutes.
  6. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) during the last few minutes of chilling.
  7. On a floured surface, roll out the chilled dough to about ¼ inch thick and cut out shapes.
  8. Transfer cookies to a lined baking sheet and bake for 15-18 minutes until edges are lightly golden.
  9. Cool on the baking sheet for 5 minutes before transferring to a wire rack. Sprinkle with optional garnish while warm.
