- 1.5 lbs beef flank steak, sliced against the grain
- 1/2 cup soy sauce (low-sodium for a healthier option)
- 1/4 cup brown sugar (or coconut sugar)
- 4 garlic cloves, minced
- 1 tablespoon fresh ginger, grated (or ground ginger)
- 1 teaspoon red pepper flakes
- 4 green onions, chopped
- 2 tablespoons cornstarch (or arrowroot powder)
- 2 tablespoons sesame oil (or olive oil)
Instructions
- Slice the flank steak against the grain into thin strips.
- In a bowl, whisk together soy sauce, brown sugar, minced garlic, grated ginger, and red pepper flakes.
- Place the sliced beef in the slow cooker and pour the sauce mixture over it, ensuring all pieces are coated.
- Cover and cook on low for 6 to 8 hours or on high for 3 to 4 hours.
- For a thicker sauce, mix cornstarch with cold water to make a slurry and stir it into the sauce about 30 minutes before serving.
- Five minutes before serving, stir in the chopped green onions and drizzle with sesame oil.
- Serve over steamed rice or noodles, garnished with additional green onions and sesame seeds if desired.
Notes
Consider lean cuts of beef for lower fat content. You can also substitute with chicken or pork, adjusting cooking time as needed.
