- Green food coloring (as needed)
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease two 9-inch round cake pans.
- In a large bowl, whisk together the cake flour, baking powder, and salt.
- In another bowl, beat the softened unsalted butter and granulated sugar until light and fluffy.
- Add eggs one at a time to the butter-sugar mixture, mixing thoroughly after each addition. Stir in the vanilla extract.
- Gradually mix the dry ingredients into the wet ingredients, alternating with the milk.
- Divide the batter in half, adding green food coloring to one portion and leaving the other uncolored.
- In a smaller bowl, mix the uncolored batter with red food coloring and pour into a heart-shaped silicone mold. Bake for 15-20 minutes and let cool.
- Pour half of the green batter into a prepared cake pan, place the cooled red heart in the center, then cover with the remaining green batter.
- Bake for 40-45 minutes or until a toothpick comes out clean. Let cool in pans for 10 minutes, then transfer to wire racks.
- Frost with your favorite icing and decorate as desired.

Use natural food coloring alternatives like beet juice for a healthier option. Room temperature ingredients mix better and avoid over-mixing.
