- 1 cup heavy cream (or half-and-half)
- 8 ounces dark chocolate (70% cacao or more), finely chopped
- 1/2 cup fresh orange juice
- Zest of 1 large orange
- 2 tablespoons granulated sugar
- Whipped cream or orange segments (for garnish)
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). In a bowl, combine the flour, cocoa powder, and powdered sugar. Add the cold, cubed butter and blend until crumbly.
- Mix in the egg yolk and a tablespoon of cold water until the dough comes together. If it’s too dry, add more water, one teaspoon at a time.
- Press the dough into a 9-inch tart pan. Chill in the fridge for 15 minutes, pricking the bottom to prevent bubbling.
- Bake the crust for 10-12 minutes until set but not browned. Let it cool completely.
- In a saucepan, bring the heavy cream to a simmer. Remove from heat and add dark chocolate, stirring until smooth.
- Mix in orange juice and zest, adjusting sugar to balance flavors.
- Pour the chocolate mixture into the cooled crust, smoothing the top.
- Chill the tart in the refrigerator for at least 2 hours until set.
- Garnish with whipped cream or orange segments before serving. Slice and enjoy!
Notes
Chilling the crust is crucial to prevent shrinking. Consider adding a splash of coffee to enhance the chocolate flavor.
