Description

Boston Cream Pie is a classic dessert featuring layers of tender cake, rich pastry cream, and a glossy chocolate ganache, perfect for any celebration.


Ingredients

  • 1 cup cake flour
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 ½ tsp baking powder
  • ¼ tsp salt
  • ½ cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 3 large eggs
  • ½ cup whole milk
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • 1 cup heavy cream
  • 6 oz dark chocolate, chopped
  • ½ cup powdered sugar

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour two 9-inch round cake pans. Mix flour, baking powder, and salt in a bowl.
  2. Cream together butter and sugar until light and fluffy, about 3-5 minutes.
  3. Add eggs one at a time, ensuring each is well mixed before adding the next.
  4. Alternately add dry ingredient mixture and whole milk to the butter mixture, starting and ending with flour.
  5. Divide batter between prepared pans and bake for 25-30 minutes. Cool in pans for 10 minutes, then transfer to wire racks to cool completely.
  6. For the pastry cream, whisk together milk, sugar, and vanilla in a saucepan over medium heat until hot. Whisk eggs and cornstarch in another bowl. Gradually add hot milk to egg mixture, then return to the saucepan and cook until thick.
  7. Remove from heat, add butter, and stir until melted. Cover with plastic wrap touching the surface and refrigerate until set.
  8. To prepare ganache, pour heated cream over chopped chocolate and stir until smooth.
  9. Assemble the cake by placing one layer on a platter, spreading pastry cream evenly, and topping with the second layer.
  10. Drizzle ganache over the top, allowing it to drip down the sides.

Notes

For a lighter alternative, use Greek yogurt instead of heavy cream in the pastry cream.
