Description

Delicious homemade blackberry cinnamon rolls featuring the tangy flavor of fresh blackberries, ideal for starting your day on a sweet note.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 4 cups all-purpose flour
  • 2 1/4 teaspoons active dry yeast
  • 1/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 cup whole milk, warm
  • 1/2 cup butter, softened
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 cup fresh blackberries
  • 2 teaspoons ground cinnamon
  • 1/2 cup brown sugar
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract

Instructions

  1. In a mixing bowl, combine the warm milk, sugar, and yeast. Stir gently and let it sit for about 5-10 minutes until it becomes foamy.
  2. Once foamy, add the melted butter, eggs, and salt to the yeast mixture. Gradually add the all-purpose flour, mixing until a dough begins to form.
  3. Turn the dough out onto a floured surface and knead for about 5-7 minutes until the dough becomes smooth and elastic.
  4. Place the kneaded dough in a greased bowl, cover it with a kitchen towel, and let it rise in a warm place for about 1 hour, or until it has doubled in size.
  5. While the dough is rising, mix together the brown sugar, cinnamon, and fresh blackberries in a bowl. Gently mash the blackberries to release some juices.
  6. Once the dough has risen, punch it down and roll it out into a rectangle about 1/4 inch thick on a floured surface.
  7. Spread the blackberry mixture evenly across the rolled-out dough, leaving a small border around the edges.
  8. Starting from one long side, roll the dough tightly into a log. Pinch the edges to seal.
  9. Using a sharp knife or a pizza cutter, slice the log into even pieces, about 1.5 inches wide.
  10. Place the cut rolls in a greased baking dish. Cover them again and let them rise for 30-45 minutes, until puffy.
  11. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Bake the rolls for 25-30 minutes or until golden brown.
  12. Let the rolls cool for a few minutes before serving. You can drizzle them with a simple icing made of powdered sugar and milk if desired.

Notes

Feel free to substitute fresh blackberries with other berries like raspberries or blueberries for a different twist.
