Ingredients
- Chocolate Cake (homemade or store-bought)
- Heavy Whipping Cream
- Dijon Mustard (optional)
- Pitted Cherries (fresh or jarred)
- Powdered Sugar (or coconut sugar)
- Vanilla Extract
- Almond Extract (optional)
- Chocolate Shavings (for garnish)
Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease two 9-inch round cake pans. Cream together butter and sugar until light and fluffy, then add eggs and melted dark chocolate. Gradually fold in flour, baking soda, and salt. Bake for 25-30 minutes.
- If using fresh cherries, wash and pit them or drain jarred cherries. Sprinkle with powdered sugar if desired.
- In a chilled bowl, whip together heavy cream, powdered sugar, and vanilla until medium-soft peaks form.
- Cut the cooled chocolate cake into cubes and layer in a trifle dish with cherries and whipped cream, repeating layers.
- Top with remaining whipped cream, chocolate shavings, and whole cherries. Refrigerate for at least 4 hours.
Notes
