Description

This Apple Cinnamon Kringle is a cozy, bakery-style pastry filled with tart apples, warm cinnamon spice, and a sweet vanilla glaze. Perfect for brunch, holidays, or anytime you want a comforting treat that feels both homemade and special.

For the Filling:

23 medium Granny Smith apples, peeled and diced (or a mix of tart and sweet apples)

½ cup brown sugar

2 teaspoons ground cinnamon

¼ teaspoon ground nutmeg (optional)

2 tablespoons unsalted butter

For the Dough:

1 sheet puff pastry, thawed

All-purpose flour, for dusting

For the Glaze:

1 cup powdered sugar

23 tablespoons milk or cream

1 teaspoon vanilla extract

Optional Toppings:

Chopped pecans or walnuts

Caramel drizzle

Coarse sugar


Instructions

  • Prepare the filling: In a skillet, melt butter over medium heat. Add apples, brown sugar, cinnamon, and nutmeg. Cook 6–8 minutes, until softened and syrupy. Cool slightly.

  • Roll out the dough: On a floured surface, roll thawed puff pastry into a 12×16-inch rectangle. Trim edges if needed.

  • Add filling: Spoon apple mixture down the center, leaving 2 inches on each side. Cut diagonal strips along both edges.

  • Shape the kringle: Fold strips over filling, alternating sides to create a braid. Transfer to parchment-lined baking sheet. Shape into an oval or keep as a braid.

  • Bake: Bake at 375°F (190°C) for 25–30 minutes, until puffed and golden. Cool 10 minutes.

 

  • Glaze: Whisk powdered sugar, milk, and vanilla. Drizzle over cooled kringle. Add toppings if desired.

Notes

For a shortcut, you can use canned apple pie filling instead of homemade.

Store at room temperature for up to 3 days, or freeze for up to 2 months.

Reheat in the oven at 300°F (150°C) for 5–7 minutes to restore flakiness.
